The Laeken European Council of 14 and 15 December 2001, by adopting the 'Laeken declaration on the future of European Union', followed up this initiative by setting out the organisational arrangements for the work of the Convention and, above all, defining its terms of reference and the issues that it would be called upon to discuss.
Le Conseil européen de Laeken, les 14 et 15 décembre 2001, en adoptant la "déclaration de Laeken sur l'avenir de l'Union européenne" donna suite à cette initiative en définissant les modalités d'organisation et de travail de la Convention et surtout en lui assignant les termes de son mandat et les questions qu'elle serait amenée à débattre.
