The anthropogenic agents that are said to exercise a telling effect on the world’s climate are known as ‘greenhouse gases’. These interact in the atmosphere with the energy radiated by the earth’s surface, retain some of this and send it back to earth, in the form of thermal radiation, thereby heating up the air in proximity to the earth’s surface.
