IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS
That the Civil Aviation Safety Authority cease providing new exemptions to the 1:36 cabin crew ratio currently mandated by Civil Aviation Order 20.16.3, and that all exemptions to the Order currently in place not be renewed upon expiry.

In addition to these measures, air safety issues are addressed by airworthiness certification procedures for equipment for in-flight mobile phone use, provided by the European Aviation Safety Agency for the whole EU and by civil aviation authorities, to ensure the safe use of technology in the aircraft cabin.

Extending the powers of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is a step towards guaranteeing the highest possible standards of aviation safety, uniform pilots’ licences with equivalent training standards, licensing of airlines from countries outside the European Economic Area and uniform training of cabin crew as well as responsibility for the implementation of EU-OPS.

I and luckily I am not alone in my view would hope that we leave the practical task of regulating the safety provisions, especially in regard to cabin crew and the accompanying provisions on crew training, to the European Aviation Safety Authority.

Whilst air transport liberalisation has not yet gone as far in Europe as it has in the USA, aviation safety must remain the first priority of all those concerned with the industry, be they operators, regulators, air-traffic controllers or cabin crew.

The symposium will deal with three main aspects of aviation safety: prevention, including aircraft maintenance, training and licences and air traffic control; protection, concerning airports, fire protection and cabin standards; and investigation, covering accident investigation, safety reporting systems and general aviation.
