– (EL) Madam President, on 2 July 1990, just a few days after the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement was signed, Time Magazine published an article which started as follows: ‘The dream of a border-free Europe took a step toward reality’ and ended as follows: ‘to combat a possible increase in illicit drug trafficking, terrorist activities and illegal immigration, controls on the external borders of Schengenland will be tightened’.
– (EL) Madame la Présidente, le 2 juillet 1990, quelques jours seulement après la signature de la convention mettant en œuvre l’accord de Schengen, Time Magazine publiait un article qui commençait comme ceci: «Le rêve d’une Europe sans frontières a fait un pas vers la réalité» et se terminait ainsi: «pour combattre une hausse possible du trafic illégal de drogues, les activités terroristes et l’immigration illégale, les contrôles aux frontières extérieures de Schengenland seront renforcés».
