It would be distressing, to say the least, if after 60 years of effort we get within an angstrom unit of the finish line and something miscarries as a result of events in the minority Parliament — not that I know of any imminent crises, but anything could happen, so the faster this is enacted and given Royal Assent, the less we would be tempting providence.
Il serait désolant, pour dire le moins, qu'après 60 années d'effort nous arrivions à un millionième de millimètre de la ligne d'arrivée et que les événements d'un Parlement minoritaire fassent tout déraper — non pas que je sois informé d'une crise imminente, mais tout peut arriver, et plus vite le projet de loi recevra la sanction royale et sera promulgué et moins nous tenterons le sort.
