Question No. 112— Mr. John Herron: With respect to the dissemination of Environment Canada’s severe weather warnings, can the government identify the specific efforts made with regard to: (a) the development of an All-Channel Alert (ACA); (b) the publicizing of the Weatheradio network; (c) the development of “Internet PUSH+ technology”; and (d) if these efforts have not yet occurred, why not?

We continue to focus on acquiring, selecting, and providing the best and most reliable information and knowledge, supplying resources and expertise, and creating programs to help Canadians prevent work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.

(10) The Community can provide added value to the actions of Member States concerning the prevention of violence, including violence in the form of sexual exploitation and abuse perpetrated against children, young persons and women through the dissemination and the exchange of information and experience, promoting an innovative approach, the joint establishment of priorities, the development of networking as appropriate, the selection of Community-wide projects and the motivation and mobilisation of all parties concerned.

The general measures proposed for the dissemination of results fall into four main categories: - the making available to the specialized public, Community institutions and national administrations of information on Community RTD programmes and projects by both traditional and electronic means; - the identification, screening and protection of results coming from Community programmes; - the dissemination through the Community by traditional and electronic means of those results judged not to be exploitable in the short to medium term, but which can make a substantial contribution to scientific advances; - support for the active exploit ...[+++]ation of results through a wide- ranging set of measures designed to produce a substantial improvement in quantitative and qualitative terms in the process whereby these results are transformed into new economic activities.

DOSES provide for a Community contribution of 4 million ECU over a period of four years to : - promote regular consultations between the various parties concerned (national statistics institutes, universities, industry and the Community), which will make it possible to discuss, adapt, co-ordinate and evaluate the work undertaken in the field in order to optimize performance, - launch or support multinational research and development projects within the Community in promising fields such as documentation on statistical data and methods, access to statistical information and forecasting, - provide logistic support for the ...[+++]selection and follow-up of certain projects of common interest and for the dissemination of the results obtained.
