80. Recalls that the child’s best interests as referred to in Article 24 of the Charter must always be a prime consideration in any policy and measure adopted in relation to children; recalls that the right to education is provided for in the Charter and that education is essential, not only for a child’s welfare and personal development but also for the future of society; considers the education of children from low-income families to be an essential precondition for enabling children to escape from poverty; calls on the Member States, therefore, to promote high-quality education for all;

14. Stresses that the right to education is a human right, and that eliminating illiteracy, ensuring equal access to quality education, including sexual education, and closing the gender gap at all levels of education empower women and girls and thereby contribute to the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls;

– (DE) Madam President, the right to unrestricted education, which means the right of access to education, is enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights, and yet it is still deficient and has still not been fully realised in practice.

33. Reaffirms its call on the Turkish authorities to step up their efforts to guarantee women's right to education and that women whose free access to education is hindered by difficulties stemming from their family or their social or cultural environment are informed of their rights; suggests to the Turkish government that it guarantee the right to education at primary and secondary level and increase financial aid to parents, especially in rural and disadvantaged areas, with a view to encouraging them to educate their children, and above all their daughters, given the high illiteracy rate among women;

* The Charter of Fundamental Rights recognises the right to education, including the right to receive free compulsory education, and access to vocational and continuing training [54].

This is the solidarity which the Charter guarantees through the right to free education, the right of workers to be informed and consulted, the right to collective bargaining and action, including the right to strike, even if it was not easy to get it included in the text, but also through the right to protection against unjustified dismissal, the right to social protection and the ban on children working.
