It is unacceptable for the European Parliament to refuse, as a result of the rejection of one of our amendments, to call – and I paraphrase again – for the restitution of international law, with the immediate withdrawal of occupying foreign troops and the assumption by the United Nations of its responsibilities under the UN Charter, with a view to putting power in the hands of truly representative, legitimate and democratic institutions without delay, by holding elections to ensure that the Iraqi people regains its sovereignty.
Il est inacceptable que le Parlement européen, en rejetant un amendement que nous avons déposé, se refuse d’exiger - et je paraphrase encore - le retour à la légalité internationale à travers le retrait immédiat des troupes étrangères d’occupation et la prise en charge par l’ONU de ses responsabilités, conformément à la charte des Nations unies, en vue d’instaurer sans tarder le pouvoir d’institutions véritablement représentatives, légitimes et démocratiques, grâce à la tenue d’élections qui garantissent le rétablissement de la souveraineté du peuple irakien.
