The fishing sector and related activities in Seychelles are heavily dependent on the fisheries agreement with the EU, since the financial contribution provided for under the fisheries agreement and the income produced by the foreign fleet's activity are crucial sources of revenue for the country's economy.

The Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Community on the one hand, and the Government of Denmark and the Home Rule Government of Greenland, on the other hand , and the Protocol setting out the fishing opportunities and financial contribution provided for in that Agreement , provide that the Union is to receive 7,7 % of the total available catches (TAC) for capelin in Greenland waters of ICES zones V and XIV.
