As regards soil and climate, the conditions in the former province of Kalamata and throughout the rest of Messinia are the same: sloping, hilly land, moderate annual rainfall (around 750-800 mm), mild winters, long, hot summers, long hours of sunshine, moderately strong winds, hilly terrain (where the olive groves have optimal exposure to light and are very well aired), light, calcareous soils with a neutral to alkaline pH and sufficient concentrations of phosphorus, potassium, boron, etc.
Les conditions pédoclimatiques de l’ancien arrondissement de Kalamata caractérisent l’ensemble de la région de Messénie et sont homogènes: terrains inclinés et mamelonnés, pluviosité annuelle modérée (environ 750-800 mm), hiver doux, été long et chaud, ensoleillement important, intensité moyenne des vents et relief mamelonné (qui favorise le bon éclairage et la bonne aération des oliveraies), sols calcaires légers au pH neutre à alcalin, et concentrations satisfaisantes en phosphore, potassium, bore, etc.
