As part of preliminary consideration of possible financing of the Gibe 3 hydroelectric project the Bank was involved in a range of technical, environmental and social studies both independently and in cooperation with others. and had secured finance for further studies, notably to study the impact of the project and related mitigation measures in the downstream area, including Lake Turkana.
Dans le cas du projet hydroélectrique Gibe III, sa réflexion préliminaire sur un éventuel financement l'a conduite à mener, seule ou en collaboration avec d'autres organismes, une série d'études techniques, environnementales et sociales, et à mettre sur pied le financement d'études complémentaires concernant, notamment, l'impact du projet et de ses mesures d’atténuation sur les zones en aval du barrage, en particulier le lac Turkana.
