14. Welcomes the Commission plan to cofinance the INTERACT initiative aimed at setting up an open European network of universities and research institutes which will help develop a comprehensive database on European research in the intermodal freight transport sector;

Today's presentation to the Commission of documents detailing the broad framework within which the freeways will operate Intermodality and intermodal freight transport in the European Union COM (97) 243 and the technical specifications Freight Freeways for the Transport of Freight by Rail COM (97) 242 of the project is confirmation that all the legal and technical obstacles at EU level have been overcome.
