Providing that, in the case of locomotives of such dimensions, in the diameter of that portion of the boiler between the front of cab and the forward end of the course adjoining the fire box a 10-inch width cannot be obtained without extending beyond the side clearance allowance, the width of running-board may be reduced to a minimum of 5 1/2 inches widening to 10 inches as the reducing diameter of the boiler permits.
