Under the rules which have hitherto applied to organizing EMOs, manufacturers whishing to exhibit their machine tools at an EMO had to agree to certain restrictions on their sales promotion activities by undertaking to refrain from participating in any other fair, exhibition or show organized during the same year as the EMO in a country whose national association of machine-tool manufacturers is a member of CECIMO, which is the case with virtually all the countries of Western Europe.
Aux termes du règlement appliqué jusqu'à présent pour l'organisation des EMO, les constructeurs qui souhaitaient exposer leurs machines-outils à une EMO devaient accepter certaines restrictions de leurs activités de promotion commerciale en s'engageant à ne participer, pendant l'année de l'EMO, à aucune autre foire ou exposition organisée dans un pays dont l'association nationale de constructeurs de machines-outils est membre du CECIMO, ce qui est le cas de presque tous les pays d'Europe occidentale.
