In that regard, I am especially thankful that I had the opportunity to assist in the progress of the Okanagan First Nations economic development by working with the Osoyoos Indian band in the establishment of the Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre and Winery, both of which have reached worldwide recognition, and by participating in negotiations and then guiding Bill C-11 through this chamber, which enshrined into law the Westbank First Nations Self-Government Agreement, the first stand-alone self-government agreement ever negotiated under the federal government's inherent right policy.
