The third character of the code identifies the substance involved, and the fourth character specifies the clinical state. The codes should be used, as required, for each substance specified, but it should be noted that not all fourth character codes are applicable to all substances. The 2008 work programme also included a call for Co-ordination and Support Actions (CSA) to generate a portfolio of projects, studies and associated initiatives that will contribute to the evaluation of the impact of the ERC activities and provide relevant evidence to contribute to the ERC mid-term review (see point 7 below).
