The unilateral declaration adopted by the Croatian Parliament in October 2003 to extend an exclusive "Ecological and Fishing Protection Zone" in the Adriatic was an initiative not in line with the European principle of regional co-operation and, as such, has created some tension in bilateral relations.
La déclaration unilatérale adoptée par le parlement croate en octobre 2003, par laquelle le pays se dotait d'une «zone exclusive de protection écologique et de pêche» en Adriatique, était une initiative incompatible avec le principe européen de coopération régionale et a, en cela, occasionné une certaine tension dans les relations bilatérales.
