Particularly with regard to flows of funds from Europe, the Commission should have much more power to tell a country in which things are going wrong – whether it is an old or a new Member State – that we will temporarily stop paying the money until we are satisfied that its administrative system has been put back on track. I hope that we are on the threshold of creating a Europe that is great and prosperous, and as far as Parliament is concerned, I think that it will cooperate fully in this.
À plus forte raison lorsqu'il s'agit de flux financiers provenant d'Europe, la Commission européenne doit avoir beaucoup plus de pouvoir afin dire, lorsque quelque chose ne tourne pas rond dans un certain pays, ancien ou nouvel État membre : nous arrêtons provisoirement le transfert d'argent jusqu'à ce que nous ayons obtenu l'assurance que la structure administrative est sur de bonnes voies. J'espère que nous nous trouvons à l'aube d'une Europe grande et prospère et, en ce qui le concerne, je pense que le Parlement européen y œuvrera de son mieux.
