In addition, in September 2002, the Committee travelled to the seat of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights where it met not only the members of the Court but also the members of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, as well as various human rights experts and representatives of non-governmental organizations who have practical knowledge of the American Convention and the Inter-American system for the protection of human rights.

During their fact-finding mission to the seat of the Inter-American Court, Committee members also learned that institutions such as the Inter-American Institute for Human Rights train local associations such as women’s groups so that they can learn to use the Inter-American system and file their own petitions.
