The Communication Network for Manufacturing Applications project has brought together major IT vendors and users with strong links to the U.S. National Bureau of Standards and the General Motors standardisation plan (MAP) to implement factory communications protocols, which will be applicable not only in the automotive industry, but in most other industries entering the era of factory automation.
