For, under Article 6 of the proposed directive, it would be possible for cross-border sales of books to be subject to price fixing not only if such sales were deliberately intended to circumvent fixed prices, but also if the circumvention of the rules was merely a side-effect of such sales.

The Court of Auditors has confirmed the regularity of the accounts, in other words, that the books are in good order, and also of the revenue side of the Budget. It has also certified the reliability of the commitments and of the administrative outgoings.

Indeed, regrettably, we must note that the present government is not only refusing to implement promises made in their platform, but they are seen in some instances to be directly opposing measures to implement Red Book commitments, such as that dealing with the Ethics Counsellor being responsible to Parliament, something which was explicitly provided for in the Red Book and supported by some members of the government and those on the other side in the other place.

As has already been noted, it is another tinkering bill. People on that side of the House seem impressed that they have a 460 page book in both official languages which they can add to the long chain of books that drags and tugs behind business people, entrepreneurs and families as they try to make their way in the world.
