Selon la définition de la 8e édition du Code international pour la nomenclature des plantes cultivées, on entend par “cultivar” un ensemble de plantes a) sélectionné en raison d’un attribut particulier ou d’une combinaison d’attributs particulière, b) qui est distinct, homogène et stable dans ces caractéristiques, et c) qui conserve ces caractéristiques lorsqu'il est multiplié par les moyens appropriés.
“Cultivar” means, following the definition of the 8th edition of the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants, an assemblage of plants that (a) has been selected for a particular character or combination of characters, (b) is distinct, uniform, and stable in these characters, and (c) when propagated by appropriate means, retains those characters.
