La commission des pétitions n’est peut-être pas une cour d’appel, mais d’après ma conception de notre travail à la commission – en d’autres termes, ma conception de mon rôle en tant que membre de la commission des pétitions – je suis assez fier que cette pétition, grâce à laquelle nous avons constaté que l’interprétation locale était différente de notre intention européenne, conjointement à l’avis de la commission des pétitions, ait finalement débouché sur la modification de la loi dans un État membre.
The Committee on Petitions may not be a court of appeal, but in my own understanding of what we are doing in the Committee – in other words, what I understand as my role as a member of the Committee on Petitions – I am rather proud that this petition, in which we saw that things were being interpreted differently at local level than was our intention at European level, together with the opinion of the Committee on Petitions, ultimately resulted in the law being changed in a Member State.
