La défense de l'industrie communautaire de la conserve impose aussi de vérifier avec soin que les contreparties communautaires octroyées aux pays tiers correspondent bien aux objectifs recherchés, un développement durable (pays ACP) ou une lutte efficace contre la drogue (MCCA et Pacte andin), ainsi que le refus de pratiques sociales réprouvées par les citoyens communautaires (dumping social), le contrôle de la qualité et des aspects technico-sanitaires des produits importés ainsi que la lutte contre la fraude sur l'origine des produits.

For the Community of Twelve, the period 1983-86 was marked by a substantial increase between 1984 and 1985 in exports and imports to and from the entire region concerned, followed by a very significant drop between 1985 and 1986, with the 1986 level of trade falling below that of 1984.
