(12a) The activities related to the decommissioning of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant will be carried out in line with the fundamental objective of protecting workers and the general public from the harmful effects of ionising radiation, as laid down in the existing legislation, particularly Council Directive 96/29/Euratom of 13 May 1996 laying down basic safety standards for the protection of the health of workers and the general public against the dangers arising from ionizing radiation, thus ensuring the highest level of safety and protection for workers and the general public's health.

I cast my vote in favour of a European solution that lays down the maximum level of protection for workers who are exposed to optical radiation.
