The Commission, represented by Mr. Bruce Millan, has decided that the Plymouth Travel To Work Area (TTWA) should become the first area in the United Kingdom eligible to receive ERDF aid under the special RENAVAL programme, which is intended to help the economic conversion of areas particularly hard hit by the decline of the shipbuilding industry.
