Contexte : Le 21 mars 2002, le CESE a adopté un avis d'initiative sur l'intégration des immigrés et le rôle de la société civile, avis dans lequel il définit l'intégration comme une "intégration civique", basée "essentiellement sur la mise sur un pied d'égalité des immigrants avec le reste de la population, en termes de droits et de devoirs, ainsi que d'accès aux biens, aux services et aux canaux de participation citoyenne, dans des conditions d'égalité des chances et de traitement".
Background note: On 21 March 2002, the EESC adopted an own-initiative opinion on immigration, integration and the role of organised civil society in which it defines integration as "civic integration, based on bringing immigrants' rights and duties as well as access to goods, services and means of civic participation progressively into line with those of the rest of the population under conditions of equal opportunities and treatment".
