Le Protocole sur le système de radiodiffusion publique dans les États membres, qui a été annexé au traité instituant la Communauté européenne par le traité d'Amsterdam, reconnaît le rôle et l'importance de la radiodiffusion de service public et confirme que les États membres sont compétents pour définir et organiser la mission de service public et son financement, à condition que cela n'altère pas les conditions des échanges et de la concurrence dans la Communauté dans une mesure qui serait contraire à l'intérêt commun, étant entendu que la réalisation du mandat de ce service public doit être prise en compte.
The Protocol on the system of public broadcasting in the Member States, which was annexed to the Treaty establishing the European Community by the Treaty of Amsterdam, recognises the role and the importance of public service broadcasting and confirms that the Member States are competent to define and organise the public service remit and its financing, provided that this does not affect the trading conditions and competition in the Community to an extent which would be contrary to the common interest, while the realisation of the public service remit shall be taken into account.
