(3) Le presse-étoupe arrière sera placé dans un tunnel étanche ou dans un autre espace étanche séparé du compartiment des tubes d’étambot et ayant un volume assez réduit pour que ce tunnel ou espace puisse être envahi sans que la ligne de surimmersion soit immergée. Le tube d’étambot sera enfermé dans un compartiment étanche dont le volume sera le plus petit qui soit compatible avec les caractéristiques du navire.
(3) The stern gland shall be situated in a watertight shaft tunnel or other watertight space separate from the stern tube compartment and of such a volume that if the tunnel or space is flooded the margin line will not be submerged; the stern tube shall be enclosed in a watertight compartment, the volume of which shall be the smallest compatible with the proper design of the ship.
