131 (1) In this section, “length” has the same meaning as in article 2(8) of the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966, as modified by the Protocol of 1988 relating to the Convention.

The term ‘international conventions’ as defined in Article 2(d) of Directive 2009/15/EC means the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea of 1 November 1974 (‘the SOLAS Convention’) with the exception of chapter XI-2 of the Annex thereto, the International Convention on Load Lines of 5 April 1966 (‘the Load Lines Convention’) and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships of 2 November 1973 (‘the MARPOL Convention’), together with the protocols and amendments thereto, and the related codes of mandatory status in all Member States, in their up-to-date version.

"Conventions" means the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (1974 SOLAS), the 1966 International Convention on Load Lines (LL 66), the 1969 International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships, and the 1973 International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, as amended by the 1978 Protocol relating thereto (MARPOL 73/78), in their up-to-date versions, and related codes of mandatory status adopted in the framework of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), together with Protocols and amendments thereto in their up-to-date versions;

Whereas the issue of international certificates for safety and pollution prevention, provided for under the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (1974 Solas), the 1966 International Convention on Load Lines (LL 1966), the 1973 International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, as amended by the 1978 Protocol (Marpol 73/78) and the related resolutions of mandatory status adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), is the responsibility of States; whereas, where private organizations issue certificates on behalf of a Member State, in accordance with the said Conventions, they also do ...[+++]so on that Member State's responsibility, as defined in those Conventions;
