(2) Directive 2002/15/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 March 2002 on the organisation of the working time of persons performing mobile road transport activities[8] establishes minimum requirements in relation to the organisation of working time in order to improve the health and safety protection of persons performing mobile road transport ...[+++] activities, to improve road safety and to align conditions of competition.

The first 39 signatories of the Charter include companies like Esso, Bosch, Honda and Michelin, automobile clubs from different Member States, umbrella organisations like the European insurers or European city networks, and national and international road safety associations.

Moreover, developing integrated intelligent road safety systems requires the involvement of many other actors such as telecommunications operators, equipment manufacturers, service providers, motorway managers, road authorities, insurance companies, road safety organisations and user associations.

The leaflet is available in the 11 official languages. It will be distributed mainly by national road safety organisations.

The purpose of this Directive shall be to establish minimum requirements in relation to the organisation of working time in order to improve the health and safety protection of persons performing mobile road transport activities and to improve road safety and align conditions of competition.
