The ageing of the population will place a heavy burden on public finances, in particular on the financing of social protection (health insurance and pensions), and may eventually give rise to intergenerational and social conflicts, given that the proportion of the active population will fall progressively and will at the same time be obliged to care for children, people of the third, fourth and soon the fifth age, handicapped people, the unemployed and people affected by social exclusion.
Le vieillissement de la population pèsera lourdement sur les budgets publics et notamment sur le financement de la protection sociale (branche maladie et retraite) jusqu'à engendrer à terme des conflits intergénérationnels et sociétaux, la part de la population active diminuant de plus en plus et devant prendre en charge l'enfance, le troisième, quatrième et bientôt cinquième âge, le handicap, le chômage et l'exclusion sociale.
